About the Play

Disney's THE LITTLE MERMAID JR. is a 60-minute musical, specially designed for middle-school aged performers, is based on the 2008 Broadway production and Disney’s beloved 1989 animated classic. The cast will feature approximately 45 students from Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School all under the direction of Mrs. Acosta.

Disney’s THE LITTLE MERMAID JR. takes place in a magical kingdom beneath the sea, tells the story of Ariel, a curious young mermaid who longs to live on land. To follow her dreams, she must defy her father, outsmart a sea witch, and prove to a prince that she’s the one he’s been searching for — all while discovering the power of her own voice. This classic Disney title contains all of the songs from the Academy Award® winning animated feature film as well as three new songs from the Broadway show.

The Little Mermaid Jr. conveys messages about love, acceptance, the courage to pursue one's dreams, even when faced with obstacles. It highlights the importance of family, self-discovery, and finding your place in the world.

The story also explores themes of sacrifice and the risks one takes for love and freedom.
