ABOUT OUR TEACHERS

Back

Hi!

I am Monica Pacheco-Pillot

I'm School Counselor

I am from Bogota, Colombia

I've been working at OLOL since August 2007

One's Attitude determines one's Altitude.

About Myself

I love traveling, cars, horseback riding, paddle boarding, and swimming.

Many people do not know that I worked in Health Psychology Research and Educational Psychology Research in my country of origin. I also worked in Human Resources at a corporate level, and currently have my private practice in Psychotherapy and Mental Health Counseling in Broward.

As a child I used to play doctor and wanted to become a pediatrician. When I graduated from High School, I started college studies in Medicine, but switched to Psychology.

I decided to become a Psychotherapist when I was studying my Bachelor's in Psychology in Colombia. I always found fascinating to study and know more about the human mind.

I never thought of becoming a school counselor! As a clinician at the Family Counseling Program from Catholic Charities at the ADOM, I was invited by my clinical supervisor to cover a vacancy for a school counselor position from someone who had resigned. I said I would do it for 6 months; six months became a year; a year became 2 years, and 17 years later here I am! I didn't now I was going to love working at OLOL so much.

Resiliency, Self-confidence, Self-discipline, Empathy, Faith.

Outside of Jaguars

My husband and I have two pets. Our dog's name is Morty and our Cat's name is Mocha. They get along very well. When we travel we like to bring them along with us, even on flights. We love them and they love to hang out with us.

My hobbies are attending classic cars shows, reading, swimming, paddle boarding, playing tennis, and horseback riding!

Jaguar Memories

  • One of my Middle School students made a mural with a Jaguar in one of my office walls. That mural stands there. Drawing was the way my student chose to communicate her feelings, session after session. Her Art was a beautiful and meaningful venue to her self-expression.
  • I love when we celebrate Hispanic Heritage in OLOL. We share the multicultural belongingness of different nations, united in one community and country.
  • My family of origin is from Colombia; I grew up with 2 brothers. My husband is from Puerto Rico. We love to live in South Florida and we travel every year to both countries to spend time with our families and friends.
