ABOUT OUR TEACHERS

Back

Hi!

I am Vanessa Balaguer-Chavez

I am the Librarian

I am from Puerto Rico

I've been working at OLOL since August 2018

Treat others the way you would like to be treated always.

About Myself

I learned that I wanted to work with children while I was living in the Dominican Republic in 1996-1999. I got a job at an English-speaking school as an assistant, and I caught “the bug.” There was something so satisfying about helping kids learn and watching them understand new concepts. I knew that I always wanted to be a part of that.

I love going to Walt Disney World and the beach. My family and I go on an extra-long (2 - 4 week) road trip every three year to explore states we’ve never been to. I have been reading an average of a book a week for the last ten years; it started as a New Year’s resolution.

I believe that honesty, kindness, and respect are three of the most important things that we can encourage children to have.

Outside of Jaguars

I met my husband in high school in 1993 and we got married in 2002. We have been happily married for 19 years. Together we have two amazing boys: Angel is 16 and Tomas is 12.

We just added a new member to our family. Her name is Bella, and she is a labradoodle. She is a beautiful 35-pound puppy!

I try to attend as many book signing conventions as I can. I look forward to going to sporting events with my family and the Auto Show every year.

I occasionally dedicate time to a local food bank by sorting food for distribution. I also encourage my boys to volunteer their extra time with their school and go to migrant camps to help with beautification projects.

Jaguar Memories

  • I enjoy the friendships I have made with my coworkers here at OLOL. We laugh and share in each other’s lives. There are too many fun moments to just name one.
  • I was inspired the first time I watched the Living Rosary. Something about that event really spoke to me. It was beautiful to watch, especially from the choir section.
  • My favorite event at OLOL would have to be the Harvest Festival. I know all the hard work that goes into it, and I see how much the kids enjoy that day! It really is so much fun for everyone.
